Position Overview

We are seeking an Industrial Engineer to improve manufacturing efficiency, workflow, and production performance at our Peapack, NJ facility. This role will work closely with plant leadership, production employees, engineering, quality, and supply chain to make manufacturing operations safer, more consistent, and more cost-effective.

The Industrial Engineer will analyze how work moves through the plant, identify bottlenecks, and implement practical improvements to processes, equipment utilization, facility layout, and standard work. This is a hands-on role requiring regular shop-floor presence and strong collaboration with the employees who build our water and wastewater treatment equipment.

Candidates ranging from recent graduates with relevant internship or project experience to experienced industrial engineers are encouraged to apply. Responsibilities and project ownership will reflect experience level.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Manufacturing Process Improvement

  • Observe and evaluate manufacturing operations to identify opportunities to improve safety, quality, productivity, and delivery.
  • Conduct time studies, work measurements, and process mapping to understand production requirements and establish realistic labor standards.
  • Identify bottlenecks, unnecessary movement, waiting time, rework, and other sources of inefficiency.
  • Develop and implement improvements to production methods, workstation organization, and material flow.
  • Collaborate with shop-floor employees and supervisors to develop practical solutions and sustain improvements.
  • Apply Lean manufacturing principles, including 5S, visual management, standard work, and root cause analysis.

Production Analysis and Planning

  • Analyze labor utilization, cycle times, throughput, work in process, and production capacity.
  • Develop tools and reports that help plant leadership understand performance and prioritize improvements.
  • Support production planning by evaluating staffing, equipment capacity, workflow, and resource requirements.
  • Compare actual performance with estimates and standards to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Partner with operations and finance to evaluate manufacturing costs and quantify improvement opportunities.

Facility Layout and Equipment

  • Evaluate plant layouts, workstations, storage areas, and material-handling methods to improve flow and space utilization.
  • Support equipment selection, justification, installation, and integration into manufacturing operations.
  • Prepare cost-benefit analyses and return-on-investment estimates for proposed equipment and process changes.
  • Coordinate with production, maintenance, engineering, and vendors to implement improvements with minimal disruption.
  • Incorporate ergonomics, safe work practices, and maintainability into recommendations.

Project Management and Standardization

  • Plan and coordinate improvement projects, including scope, schedules, resources, milestones, and expected outcomes.
  • Track project progress, communicate issues, and verify results after implementation.
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures, work instructions, process documentation, and training materials.
  • Support employee training when new equipment, methods, or workflows are introduced.
  • Partner with quality and engineering to investigate recurring production issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Help build a continuous improvement culture through clear communication, employee involvement, and measurable results.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Relevant manufacturing experience through employment, internships, co-ops, or substantial academic projects.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, workflow analysis, time studies, and production efficiency.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate data into practical recommendations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and comfort organizing, analyzing, and presenting operational data.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, process documentation, and work instructions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with both office and shop-floor teams.
  • Ability to organize multiple assignments and follow improvements through implementation.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Peapack and spend significant time in a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in custom equipment manufacturing, metal fabrication, machining, welding, or mechanical assembly.
  • Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience with facility layout, capacity planning, labor standards, or material-handling improvements.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and manufacturing data analysis.
  • Experience using AutoCAD or similar tools for plant and workstation layouts.
  • Experience supporting capital equipment projects, including financial justification and installation.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional projects and delivering measurable operational improvements.
