Job Description

Vertex Pharmaceuticals seeks a computational chemist to advance drug discovery through molecular modeling, cheminformatics, and AI-enabled design methods. The role involves collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to identify and optimize drug candidates while contributing to the expansion of computational chemistry capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Apply computational chemistry methods to accelerate drug candidate discovery and optimization
• Leverage physics-based methods, generative models, and machine learning to design chemical entities
• Collaborate with chemists, structural biologists, and project teams on hit and lead identification
• Assess and develop new computational methodologies, create workflows, and share best practices
• Identify opportunities to enhance R&D capabilities through cross-functional collaboration

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry or equivalent degree
• 0-3 years of relevant computational drug design experience
• Expertise in structure-based drug design methods
• Proficiency in Python scripting and programming
• Experience with molecular modeling software (commercial and open-source)
• Demonstrated ability to apply modern AI capabilities to design and discovery workflows
• Strong communication and presentation skills

Compensation: $108,000 - $162,000 base
